The VIN identifies a specific vehicle and helps determine model year, factory specification, engine, and market. It does not usually appear as the part number.

Understand what a VIN, OEM number, and supplier SKU each identifies—and which reference to use when sourcing Chinese car parts.
OEM or manufacturer number
This is the strongest part-level reference when it is readable and current. Superseded numbers may still require a manufacturer catalog cross-check.
Supplier or warehouse SKU
A stock code identifies an inventory record. It is useful for locating the item but must still be tied back to the vehicle and OEM reference.
Use the references together
The safest workflow combines VIN, OEM or old-part number, vehicle specification, and current photos. Do not substitute one unclear reference for all four.
Short answer
Is a SKU the same as an OEM number?
No. A SKU is an inventory identifier. An OEM number is assigned by the vehicle or component manufacturer and is normally the stronger fitment reference.
